Bumrah, Rohit Sharma and Dhoni steer India to victory, India bag the series

Sri Lanka might have hoped to pull off a boilover against the in form Indian side. But, Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling performance and the batting performances by Rohit Sharma and Mahendra Singh Dhoni quashed their hopes as India clinched the series with a victory in the 3rd ODI match. Sri Lanka played the 3rd ODI under the captaincy of stand- in captain Chamara Kapugedara . He took over as the captain ensuing the suspension of Sri Lanka’s captain Upul Tharaga. Tharanga was suspended for slow over- rates in the second ODI match against India. But, the change in captaincy did not bring any change in Sri Lanka’s fate as the team continues to be troubled by the dismal overall performance.

Sri Lanka had their share of luck as Kapugedara won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lanka lost Dickwella and Mendis early in the innings and it was Bumrah who removed both batsmen. However, 72- run stand between Thirimanne and Chandimal held up Sri Lanka for a while. Thirimanne chalked up 80 runs from 105 balls. Chandimal made 36 runs before he fell victim to Hardhik Pandya. Sri Lankan innings came to end for just 217 runs.

India wobbled in the beginning of the innings after losing 4 wickets while scoring 61 runs. Shikhar Dhawan who had a dream run throughout India’s tour of Sri Lanka fell for 5. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Kedhar Jadhav returned to the dressing room without making much contribution. But Rohit Sharma led India’s chase and Dhoni partnered up with Rohit to help India surpass the target. They consolidated a partnership of 156 runs. Rohit Sharma notched up the second century of the series and remained not out on 124. Dhoni once again put his experience into use as he scored an unbeaten 67. In the end, India reached the target in 45.1 overs, winning the match and the series.
