Pune Supergiants stuns Mumbai Indians to pick up a 3- run victory
Ben Stokes turned out to be the game changer for Rising Pune Supergiants in the match against Mumbai Indians. Pune Supergiants coasted to a 3- run victory, putting an end to Mumbai Indian’s winnings streak. Ben Stokes picked up two wickets and also was responsible for another two wickets. Ben Stokes claimed the first wicket in the 4.2th over after he removed JC Buttler for 17. He dismissed KV Sharma to claim his second wicket. He also pulled off a catch to dismiss Harthik Pandya. He also played an important role in the run- out of McClenaghan.
Batting first, Rising Pune Supergiants reached to 50 without much difficulty. The openers Rahul Tripathi and Ajinkya Rahane steadied the Pune innings, which was a good sign for Pune. Karn Sharma shackled the openers, dismissing Rahane for 38 runs. Rahul Tripathi took the responsibility of maintaining the run rate. He made 45 runs from 31 balls before he fell prey to Karn Sharma.Ben Stokes scored 17 runs and Manoj Tiwary made 22 runs, which enabled Pune to reach the total of 160. Apart from Karn Sharma, Harbhajan Singh also displayed an exceptional performance as he conceded just 20 runs from his four overs. Mumbai India also was successful in building up a good opening partnership as Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler notched up 27 runs in the first 3 overs. Ben Stokes broke the partnership by picking up the wicket of Buttler. Mumbai lost the second wicket in the 7.2th over after Christian removed Rana. Parthiv Patel could not survive for long as Washington Sundar bowled him out to fetch the third wicket for Pune. Rohit Sharma did everything possible to keep the require rate as low as possible. He has been under scrutiny because of his disappointing display with the bat in this season. But, he seemed to have found his form as he carried on his brilliant performance in the previous match. He smashed his half- century and just when everyone thought that he might lead Mumbai to a victory, Unadkat removed Rohit. Though Karn Sharma and Harthik Pandya tried to revive the Mumbai innings, Mumbai eventually folded their innings for 157 runs.
