P.V Sindhu crowned the Indian open badminton champion
P.V. Sindhu adds a new feather in her cap after emerging victorious in the Indian open badminton women’s final. She prevailed over Spain’s Carolina Marin who currently holds the No.1 position in the rankings. This is also a sweet revenge for Sindhu as Carolina defeated her at Rio Olympics. Carolina gave tough competition to Sindhu but Sindhu was determined not to let the history repeat and won the match 21-19, 21-16.Sindhu took an early control of the game by taking the 6-1 lead. But Carolina managed to reduce Sindhu’s lead and held her nerve to take the advantage at 18-17 and then at 19-18. But Sindhu continued to play with determination and finally took three points which turned out to be the most important phase of the match.
Sindhu decided to maintain her aggressive approach and took a 4-0 lead not giving enough time to Carolina to build momentum. The trick worked as despite Carolina’s continuous efforts she could not nullify Sindhu’s lead. Sindhu extended the lead to 20-15 and required only 1 more point to win the match. She did not have to wait for long as Carolina made a fatal error which gave 1 point to Sindhu. The match finally ended with Sindhu triumphing over Carolina to conquer the Indian open badminton trophy.It was the 10th face off between Sindhu and Carolina in an international badminton match. With this victory, Sindhu and Carolina have won 5 matches each, which make Sindhu – Carolina competition more interesting.
