Biju Menon joins Jibu Jacob’s Mohanlal flick

Actor Biju Menon joins Vellimoonga director Jibu Jacob’s upcoming Mollywood flick. The untitled movie will have Mohanlal in the lead and Meena playing his female counterpart. Biju Menon joins hands with Jibu after their surprise hit Vellimoonga. According to reports, Biju will play the role of a government employee in the movie, which will start rolling from June.

Mohanlal will play the role of a Panchayath secretary in the movie. Interestingly, the director’s previous movie Vellimoonga had Biju Menon plays the role of a local political leader who plays politics within a Panjayath. The film is based on a short story named Pranayopanishath by VJ James. Writer Sindhuraj pens the screenplay for Jibu Jacob.

It is the second time Sindhuraj is adapting another writer’s work. The first was ‘Thappana’, based on a work in Bengali by Ashapoorna Debi. “Thappana’ is one of the films very close to my heart. Its characters look real. I always try to create characters and plots that a layman could relate to. The Mohanlal film too will be a realistic one,” he says.

Pranayopanishath is well known short story in Malayalam writer by writer VJ James. The story narrates a passionate love life of a middle aged couple. It is considered as one of the best love stories ever written in Malayalam literature and still having a strong cult following.

Jibu Jacob’s last flick, Vellimoonga was the surprise hit of 2014 in Mollywood. The movie came to theaters as a low profile comedy film and got a lukewarm response in the first few days. But the movie took on with the help of mouth to mouth publicity and declared as a sleeper hit. The low budget film went on as far as the second highest grossing Malayalam film of the year, with a box office collection estimated as Rs. 20 Crore

The movie also has Nedumudi Venu, Aju Varghese, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kalabhavan Shajon and Sudheer Karamana in pivotal roles. While M Jayachandran and Bijibal compose the music, Pramod Pillai will crank the camera. The movie is already trending in the social media as it brings together the super hit pair of Mohanlal and Meena after the record breaking Drishyam. The untitled flick is produced by Sophia Paul under the banner Weekend Blockbusters.
